The 2023 NY Giants come into the season with bigger expectations after a suprising 2022 season where they finished with a 9-7-1 record, their first winning season since 2016, and their first playoff appearance since 2016. They made it to the divisional round with a win over the Vikings in the wild-card round with the help of QB Daniel Jones passing over 300 yards. Eventually, they would lose to the Eagles in blowout fashion. Even with making the playoffs, there would be the need for massive improvement on Offense and defense.

In free agency, Joe Schoen would have to bring back key players to the offense. He would sign QB Daniel Jones to a 4-year/160-Mill deal, which would have an average annual value of 40 mill per year. This is an overpay for Jones, considering the 2022 season was a improvement from recent years but not for a elite level for 40 million to what Mahomes and other elite quarterbacks make. The choice to sign to DJ to a contract would mean to franchise-tag star running back, Saquon Barkley.

While bringing back key players was huge, GM Joe Schoen would bring in players to help Daniel Jones out after he played with a weak receiving core in the 2022 season. Schoen would trade the 3rd round pick from the Kadrius Toney trade to get TE Daren Waller, considered a top 5 tight end but injured for most of the 2022 season.

Next would be to improve the linebacker position, they would get Bobby Okereke, who had 151 tackles for the Colts. The WR depth was a huge need after letting go of Kenny Golladay and his huge contract. Giants would re-sign Slayton, Hodgins, and Sterling Shepard, while signing Paris Campbell, coming off 600 plus-yard season. Schoen would find a WR in the draft. Drafting Jalin Hyatt out of Tennessee. Giants would also find playesr to help with the defensive back, drafting Deonde Banks in the first round and Tre Hawkins in the 6th round. To help the Defensive rush, they added some depth. Signing A'shawn Robinson and nose-tackle Rakeem Nunez-Roches, both free agents who would be low risk/low reward who could be helpful in Wink 3rd down rush.

Now coming with all these additions with the help of the great coaching of Daboll, Wink, and, Kafka, these are some expectations to come back and make the playoffs again.

Things to look out for

  1. Sophomore improvements from Evan Neal and Kayvon Thibodeaux. Coming into their 2nd year as a Giant, both 2022 first-round picks need that sophomore ump and play to that potential that the Giants saw when drafting them, Especially Evan Neal, who struggled in his rookie and is key to the offensive line to protect Daniel Jones.

  2. Daniel Jones chemistry with Darren Waller. One of the big struggles that DJ had with in 2022 was not having that #1 receiver to get the ball too, and Giants made sure to get him that with the trade for Darren Waller. Coming off an injury-riddled season, there seems to be expectations that he will come back to that TE who got back-to-back 1,000 yard seasons. At his 30-year-old age, he will be the first target for Jones, as in his only pre-season game he caught 3 catches for 30 yards. It seems their connection will be big for the Giants success.

Predictions: Looking at the Giants schedule, there are going be some tough games especially against the AFC East and the division games, Giants defense is going to have to step up and prove that 2022 was not a fluke. There are some winnable games as the NFC is looking weak and all the better QBs like Rodgers, and Wilson have been traded to the AFC. More teams are rebuilding or re-tooling. With a defense that is average at best and with talent that is made up of a lot of rookies and sophomore's, with Wink there will be games where they give up points vs offense like Eagles and Cowboys that will take advantage of them.

Record prediction:9-8 -5th in NFC and lose in the divisional round.
