The Failure of the 2022 New York Yankees

The 2022 New York Yankees were eliminated from the postseason after being swept the Houston Astros. Making it the third straight ALCS appearance and 4th time they've been eliminated from the postseason by the Astros since 2017. This is a failure considering the season the Yankees had a 120 win pace at one point and not even winning 100 games.

The biggest failure in the ALCS was the offense vs the Astros, considering they combined for 9 runs in the 4 games and not scoring with runners position, going 5 for 25 in RISP the whole series. One player in particular was seen as non-factor was Josh Donaldson. He hit an OPS of .404 and striking out 10 of the 16 plate appearance and only 1 hit. This is bad, with the Yankees paying him 26 mill per year and traded for him and he was big on defense but that can't be the only reason they took on 20 plus million from the Twins to get him.

The other problems in the series were the decisions by the manager Aaron Boone, in game 1 when he took out Taillon for the struggling Schmidt, who gave up 2 runs and would ultimately be the deciding runs in game 1, as they would lose 4-2. The other problem were the shortstop position as Boone would put 3 different shortstops in the starting lineup in all 4 games, this was a huge problem as they weren't getting production out of that position. Boone would constantly in post game-conferences defend IKF and calling him one of the best defensive shorstops after bad games is not what you want from a manager. The improvement at shortstop when Oswald Peraza was noticeable and the Yankees stuborness will hurt them in the long run, when he was just acquired as a stopgap till Oswald Peraza and Anthony Volpe were ready for the majors.

There is a lot of room for improvement for the Yankees, that start with Owner Hal Steinbrenner and General Manager Brian Cashman to start spending and get over the luxury tax limit. Trading Josh Donaldson contract, so you can get rid of the 21 million, and put IKF at third base since that was the position he won at gold glove. Knowing Brian Cashman past few seasons, they wont spend that much, but a must need is to give judge a fair that shows the front office that they are serious on wanting him back.
